Prank Call = Water Damage....

We’ve all had those hotel stays that are, shall we say, less than satisfying.  I remember checking into a hotel that was hosting a biker convention,  and waking up at 2AM to the sound of a Harley being fired up in what sounded like the adjoining room.   Of course that’s still better than being awakened to the sound of the amorous couple next door, but moving right along…..

A guest at a Hampton Inn in Kentucky got more than he bargained for on his overnight stay recently, when a caller claiming to be the front desk asked him to make an adjustment to the room’s sprinkler system.  Well, the “adjustment” only served to activate said sprinkler system, evacuating a “considerable amount of water” according to a hotel spokesperson.

The fire department was called to the scene to correct the problem, along with police, who say that whoever made the call could be facing a Class D felony charge when apprehended.   They believe the hotel was the target of the prank, not the tenant who received the call.

Several guests were moved from the Hampton Inn to the nearby Holiday Inn Express to spend the rest of their evening.

Water restoration crews were removing water from the hotel late into the following morning, and police spent the day following up leads to determine who made the call that started the problem in the first place.

Fortunately with today’s technology, it is almost impossible for a prank phone call to go untraced.  Police are confident that they will apprehend the prankster very soon.

The damage to the hotel is considerable, and somebody will be paying a lot of money to get everything restored to its pre-loss condition.

It is situations exactly like this that require professional water restoration services.  The water needs to be removed and everything completely dried out in order to prevent long term damage to the structure.  Carpets will require drying and cleaning, floors will need to be treated, and drywall may have to be repaired or replaced depending upon the depth and severity of the spill.
