Carpet Flood Damage Restoration...

Arranging for the repairs of your home after it has suffered from flood damage can often be difficult and stressful, and carpet drying is one of the most important things that you will need to do if you are aiming to minimize the cost of the repairs.

Reacting quickly to a flood is one thing you will have to do if you are going to be covering all the costs of the repairs yourself. Preventing water from getting into your home, and arranging water extraction as soon as possible can be vital for reducing the cost of any repairs.

Water Extraction

Depending on the severity of the flood, water extraction may be a fairly straightforward process of removing the water from your home, or allowing it to drain away.  Using brushes and buckets to push the water away from your home are common enough, and can be the first point of call to help you get the water out of your home.

However, if you have more severe flooding and there is a large amount of water in your home, or if you have a basement, this can be a particular problem.   This is more serious case that will require you to get an industrial pump to help get the water out as soon as possible, as the quicker the water is removed from your home, the less damage it will cause.

Drying Out Your Carpets

If you have the time to prepare for a flood before it occurs, then of course, it is best to remove the carpet and put it in a dry place away from the flood water.  But as flooding can often strike quickly and without warning, carpet drying can become an important part of dealing with the destruction brought about by a flood.

While it may be the case that you can salvage your carpets if you act quickly, if there has been a sewage leak, then it will always be best to get rid of carpets that have been exposed to it.  Nevertheless, if the carpets have been submerged in water for over 72 hours, then unfortunately, there would be no other choice but just to throw it away.

If possible, carpet drying should be done outdoors, in a well-ventilated area to allow air to circulate around the surface and underside of the carpet to dry it fully.  While doing this, you can also clean the carpet thoroughly, using the strongest cleaner that won’t damage your carpet, yet eliminate any growth of mildew or odors.

Conclusion

The most important thing that you can do if your home is struck by flooding is to act as quickly as possible in getting that water out of your home using any water extraction methods available to you.

Salvaging carpets can often be a big saving if you have to pay for all repairs yourself. And if this is the case, then getting the carpets cleaned and dried as quickly as possible is vital, as carpet drying is only effective if done immediately.
